Two fragments of an Āyaka frieze; h. 33 ×  w. 238+89=327 ×  d. 22 cm. A scene to the left of NM613 represents the birth of the Buddha-to-be; his mother Māyā is represented standing.

Middle Indo-Aryan, Southern Brāhmī script. One line of writing inscribed along the lower edge of a long sculptured beam preserved in two fragments, here called NM611 and NM613. Inscribed area: h. 3 ×  w. 163+27=190 cm (preserved); a small fragment connecting the two pieces has not yet been identified.

Undated. Attributable to the period 250-350 CE on palaeographic grounds.
Origin
Presumably installed originally at findspot.
Provenance
Discovered between March 1926 and October 1927 at Nagarjunakonda, Site 6. Fragments identified at Nagarjunakonda Museum (acc. no. 611 and acc. no. 613) in February 2016.

    Only the right part of this inscription was described and edited by Vogel 1929–30a: 15, 25 (K) . We edit the text here integrally, from the ASI estampage as well as the pictures published in Rosen Stone 1994 , our own photographs, and after autopsy of the stone.

Hidā, Budhā, Padumā, Misā, Culabudhā, and Nākā, together with his/her son-in-laws, together with his/her grandsons, and together with his/her granddaughters, and together with his/her relatives, friends, and kinsmen ... two slabs and ... (were established?) as pious gift.
